The Dynamics Of Laura Welsh

Here at Last.fm HQ we listen to a lot of music (obviously). Occasionally something catches our ear and stands out as something special. In Discovery of the Week, our staff bring you their personal picks and recommendations from their hours and hours of sifting through new music. This week, Miguel Pellitero (aka pellitero) brings you Laura Welsh.

'Laura Welsh III' could be a good title for Laura Welsh's forthcoming album. For one, it would share its name with the latest of a series of enigmatic clips posted on her YouTube channel - these big and hypnotic electronic beats or piano-led orchestral arrangements could potentially be forming part of the Polydor-released solo debut.

Dev Hynes aka Blood Orange and L.A. Rhye's Robin Hannibal have already lent a hand on the production front on last year's singles, but it has been confirmed that 'Betrayal', an epic collaboration with UK producer Jakwob, won't be released as a commercial single but handed a as a freebie through laurawelsh.com instead:

Those tastemakers attending the mammoth Brighton's Great Escape music conference and festival, the nomadic Dot to Dot or the London-programmed June date will have the opportunity of sampling the result of month's worth of rehearsals with her new band...

With Laura working with some extremely talented contemporary soul writers and producers, it looks like her music career may be set to thrive. Certainly intriguing and one to keep an eye on.
